Surrey clock Repairs price list
The following is a guide as to what you can expect for most repairs, based on the assumption that there is no serious damage, or missing parts to the clock movement.
If there is, we can usually still carry out the repair, including replacement of damaged parts, and you would be advised of the cost implications BEFORE we go ahead with
the work.

In all instances, prices include collection and delivery to your home address within a 20 mile radius of Dorking. Outside this area, an extra charge
may be negotiated.

Most repairs should be complete within 6 weeks and all will carry a one-year, on site guarantee.

Mantel clocks:
This category caters for most of the French, German or English clocks made between 1850 and 1930, of low to medium value and complexity.

Timepieces, ie those that have one winding hole and just tell the time £150
Two-train, ie those that have two-winding holes and strike on the
hour/half hour only
£175

Chiming mantel clocks:
This category caters for the more complex chiming clocks which require a great deal more work that the previous examples. It unfortunately includes many 1930s ‘Napoleon Hat’ shaped clocks whose value is realistically often less than the repair cost. However, we will advise on value vs cost.

Three –train, ie those that have three winding holes and play Westminster or
other chimes on the quarters
£325

English Bracket Clocks:
This category caters for the high value, classic English bracket clocks dating from around 1750 to 1850 and repair cost will have to be quoted individually, depending on complexity and overall condition.

Carriage Clocks:
Carriage clocks, usually French manufactured, vary from the simple timepiece, through the two-train, striking version, to the top-of-the range ‘repeaters’, which can easily be recognised by the small brass button on the top of the case. Further complexities can also be in-built with alarm mechanisms. At the heart of all these clocks is the ‘platform’, which is the square plate with a hairspring and balance wheel that you can see directly below the top glass panel. If this is broken or worn out, it can be replaced with a new ‘lever’ platform, which will ensure perfect running for years. Many customers also like us to polish the brass cases while repairing the mechanism.

Simple timepiece, overhaul £140
Two-train, striking carriage, overhaul £195
Repeater - Repeater alarm carriage, overhaul £350
Case polished and laquered £50
New platform, supplied and fitted £80

Longcase or ‘Grandfather’ clocks:
This category caters for traditional longcase clocks that strike the hour only on a bell or gong and were made between 1700 and 1910. Price includes total overhaul, plus setting-up at your home.

Single weight, 30 hour country longcase £475
Two-weight, 8-day longcase clock £495

‘Grandmother’ clocks:
This category caters for those clocks, usually made between 1920s-1930s, with German or English movements which have either a Westminster or other quarter chime. In terms of complexity of repair, they equate to the chiming mantel clock, above, but are of higher value and worth repairing.
Three train movements, either weight or spring driven £375

Wall Clocks:
This category covers most wall hanging clocks.

Technically called ‘Dial’ clocks but often known as ‘school’ or ‘office’ or ‘station’ clocks. The sought after English version will have a single winding hole with an
8-day ‘fusee movement.
£175
The rarer striking, two- train version, £375
Single weight Vienna Regulators £175
Two-weight, striking Vienna regulators £200
Two-train, striking German box style wall clocks £175
Three-train, chiming German box-style wall clocks £325

Please note, we do not repair 400-day, ‘anniversary clocks’, quartz clocks or electric clocks.
